Requirement Information

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for a commercially available 16 Channel 100W S-Band High-Power Amplifier (HPA) Shelf to support Research and Development activities. It is intended to operate as the transmitter to drive a phased array antenna (Antenna not included). Each of the 16 inputs takes a low-power (1 mW) radio-frequency (RF) signal and amplifies it to create 16 high-power (100W) RF signals out. The unit also contains control circuitry to prevent damage to the unit and to allow the user to monitor the hardware status, and has 16 lowpower output coupling ports that are used for monitoring and calibration. The unit will be packaged as one or more chassis which fit into a standard 19" equipment rack. The Advanced Signal Processing section within the Radar Division requires several enabling technologies within the transmitter to be able to support future radar system development. These technologies include solid-state amplifiers with high duty cycles, suppression of unwanted spurious outputs, monitoring and protection, and pulse control. Vendor must have demonstrated past performance in producing, testing, and delivery of high-power solid-state transmitters with the required capabilities. Please see Attachment 1: 16 Channel 100W S-Band HPAs Shelf Specifications. The anticipated line item structure for equipment described in Attachment 1 is:
