The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is a component of the Department of the Treasury that designs, engraves, and prints U.S. banknote currency and other U.S. security products. In support of these operations at BEP’s Eastern Currency Facility (ECF) located in Washington, DC, the BEP has a need for a new Tribology Tester integrated with a 3D Optical Profilometer.
The BEP Office of Quality Operations (OQO) seeks to provide the ability test and characterize ink abrasion and plate wear properties by friction through measurement of coefficient of friction (COF), wear in-depth/wear rate/wear volume, and high-resolution 3D images of worn surface. This is to support plate failure analysis during plate printing as well as production process improvement.
